Complete Advocacy &
Productivity Platform,
Revolutionizing the Case
Management System for Public
Defenders

EMPOWERING THE ZEALOUS
ADVOCACY YOUR CLIENTS
DESERVE

Public defenders are often forced to use frustrating software or spend countless hours creating their own reports, making it difficult to effectively serve their clients. ZLS is here to change that. Our powerful and intuitive cloud-based case management system streamlines the process and saves time, allowing offices to win more funding by providing dynamic data on their work. With ZLS, everything is organized and easily accessible, freeing public defenders to focus on advocating for their clients.

INTUITIVE

ZLS was created by public defenders, with constant feedback from real cases, to produce a truly intuitive experience for everyone on the defense team. That perspective was combined with experience in deploying enterprise applications and the latest user experience (UX) best practices to create the only case management system to offer PDX – Public Defender Experience. The result is a system with virtually no learning curve that saves time and helps clients rather than becoming just one more task in the overwhelming world of indigent defense.

COMPREHENSIVE

Existing case management systems often fall short in their ability to effectively manage and organize all aspects of a case, including digital evidence, email and text communications. They also tend to focus on the case itself, rather than the client, which can lead to missing important connections and insights.

ZLS is a powerful, cloud-based case management system built by public defenders, with input from real-world cases, that addresses these shortcomings. The system is designed to encompass everything that public defenders and their teams need to manage their cases, while also providing a holistic view of the client and their needs. It even utilizes advanced algorithms to suggest potential conflicts and surface key insights, including patterns in police reports from particular officers or how a certain expert tends to testify.

ZLS integrates all email communications directly into the client’s case and offers two-way texting, including automatic SMS court reminders, making it easy to stay in touch with clients. With unlimited storage, ZLS can handle the “digital tsunami” from the prosecution and keep digital discovery organized using customizable categories and tags. Team members can also review, annotate, and share notes from videos directly in the client’s case.

FUTURE-PROOF

ZLS is built using the world’s most popular and scalable web frameworks, which enables us to easily adapt to changing demands and ensure smooth operation at all times. By deploying microservices and scaling up computing power as needed, we can ensure that the system is always able to meet the needs of our users. And by hosting ZLS on Amazon Web Services (AWS), we can provide a powerful, secure, and reliable cloud-based platform that is designed to evolve and adapt to the future. With 99.9% uptime, you can trust that ZLS will always be available when you need it.

SECURE

As a system built for public defenders with the attorney-client relationship at its heart, ZLS has confidentiality and security integrated at every opportunity. This includes secure integration capabilities for industry leaders like Google and Microsoft, advanced code-security analytics, best practice implementation of Amazon’s Web Services (AWS) architecture including file versioning and data backup and disaster recovery, and the highest field-level encryption for the most sensitive pieces of information like personally identifiable information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI).

AFFORDABLE

Public defender agencies are often faced with limited budgets and a struggle to keep up with the vast resources that are poured into prosecutors and law enforcement. This has made it difficult for them to develop a modern, comprehensive case management system in-house.

Too often, offices are forced to rely on outdated legacy systems or settle for systems designed for other purposes, like customer support, sales, or civil litigation, that have been adapted to fit their needs.

ZLS was specifically designed to meet the unique needs of public defender offices, with a focus on affordability and ease of use. Our system is built with cost-saving features, such as document and file management, email and calendar integration, and text messaging, that eliminates the need for additional expensive services. And our pricing model is simple, with straightforward subscription tiers per user, making budgeting for ZLS easy and predictable. With ZLS, there is no upfront investment, and the hidden costs of maintaining servers, hiring IT staff, or ongoing custom development are eliminated.

Insightful

Public defenders need to prove their worth to funders and stakeholders, but traditional methods of quantifying their workload can be burdensome. ZLS offers a solution by providing dynamic reports that are tailored to the needs of public defender offices. These reports can include over ten specific report types and can be fine-tuned with customizable layouts and filters. Any report can be exported in Excel or PDF on demand for expanded flexibility and analysis. Additionally, ZLS provides no-code custom fields that allow for easy adaptation to unique jurisdictional or funder requirements. And with ZLS, when timekeeping is turned on, tracking workload effort is seamless and does not add extra burden to already overworked public defenders.

    COOKIE POLICY

    Cookie Policy

    Last Modified: July 28, 2022

As you navigate our websites and our platform (“Platform”), Kodify LLC may collect information through the use of commonly used information-gathering tools, such as cookies and similar technologies. This Cookie Policy explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as your rights to control our use of them.

    What are cookies?

A cookie is a small file containing a string of characters that is sent to your computer when you visit a website. When you visit the site again, the cookie allows that site to recognize your browser. Cookies store user preferences and other information, like type of browser and device, language preference, and operating system.

Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, Kodify LLC) are called “first-party cookies”. Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called “third-party cookies”. Third-party cookies enable third-party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website (like advertising, interactive content and analytics). The parties that set these third party cookies can recognise your computer both when it visits the website in question and also when it visits certain other websites.

What types of cookies does Kodify LLC use?

The types of cookies served through our website and the purposes they perform are as follows.

Targeting cookies: These cookies are used to make advertising messages more relevant to you. We partner with third parties to either display advertising on our website or to manage our advertising on other sites. Our third-party partners may use cookies to gather information about your activities on our website and other sites in order to measure the effectiveness of our advertising or to provide you with advertising based upon your browsing activities and interests (“Interest Based Advertising”). We also use cookies associated with social networking sites, which enable you to share pages and content that you find interesting on our website through third-party social networking and other websites. These cookies may also be used for advertising purposes, too.

Strictly necessary cookies: These cookies are required for the operation of our website and Platform. Examples of strictly-necessary cookies include those used to authenticate the use of the Platform, to enable and support our security features, and to help us detect malicious activity.

Performance cookies: These cookies are used to understand how our website and Platform is used in order to enhance their performance and develop them according to the preferences of our customers and visitors. For example, cookies may be used to track and provide trend analysis on how our users interact with our Platform, to track errors, and to measure the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns.

Functional cookies: These cookies are used to enhance the performance and functionality of our website and Platform, but are non-essential to their use. For example, cookies can tell us which language you prefer and what your communications preferences are.

How does Kodify LLC use cookies in its web and mobile applications?

Kodify LLC uses first- and third-party cookies to power certain functionality within its web- and mobile-based applications, including to provide in-app product guides and chat communications. If you choose to connect your Kodify LLC account to one or more of our integration partners, Kodify LLC may use cookies to facilitate the interoperability of your Kodify LLC account with this third-party software. These cookies are strictly necessary and may not be disabled through the opt-out mechanisms described below. In addition, third-party software that you integrate with Kodify LLC may use cookies and other tracking technologies as part of their service offering. Cookies used as part of our partners’ service offerings are subject to those partners’ cookie policies, and are not covered by this Cookie Policy.

How does Kodify LLC use cookies for analytics purposes?

We may use first- and third-party cookies to track and analyze usage information. For example, we use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. Google Analytics uses cookies to help us analyze how our website is used, including the number of visitors, the websites from which visitors have navigated to our website, and the pages on our website to which visitors navigate. This information is used by us to improve our website.

We use Google Analytics with restrictions on how Google can process our data enabled. For information on Google’s Restricted Data Processing go to https://privacy.google.com/businesses/rdp/. To opt out from data collection by Google Analytics, you can download and install a browser add-on, which is available  here.

Does Kodify LLC use other tracking technologies, like web beacons and Flash cookies?

Cookies are not the only way to recognise or track visitors to a website. Clear gifs, also known as web beacons, are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of web users. The Adobe Flash Player (and similar applications) uses technology to remember settings, preferences and usage similar to browser cookies but these are managed through a different interface than the one provided by your web browser. This technology creates locally stored objects that are often referred to as “Flash cookies.”

Kodify LLC does not use web beacons or Flash cookies. However, third-party services that you may link to the Platform may employ these technologies. These third-party services are not covered by this Cookie Policy. You are encouraged to review these third-party services’ policies and materials for more information concerning their use of cookies and other tracking technologies.
